We completed the online questionnaire. We were not given the opportunity to declare our investment accounts and real estate. We are pensioners and have prepared well for our retirement and are keen to get an Amex card to generate Avios so that we can get discounts on travel.

Verified ReviewerUsed card on Amazon, Amazon locked my account. AMEX refused to help.
I recently won a $25 American Express virtual gift card from the website Swagbucks.com. I went ahead and added the card to my Amazon account, proceeded to make a purchase, and went on with my day.
Not even 15 minutes later, I received an email from Amazon saying they had locked my account until I could provide proof of ownership of the card I used. This was where the troubles began. I clicked the link to go to my AMEX card and the only information on the page was the card number, expiration date, code, and transaction history. Amazon requires all that information (last four digits, rest blurred out), plus my name and address, and a photo of my driver's license.
The card does not have any of that, as it is a virtual card. I called American Express 9 times before I finally got to speak to the right department. Their phone holding system repeatedly hung up on me while I was being transferred around. The representative from the correct department stated that there was no possible way they could send me a letter or email or any sort of confirmation that would help me get my Amazon account unlocked.
When I asked why, I was simply told that it was not possible. They have the billing information, as it was required to set the card up. However, they refuse to help me. So now, I find myself in a predicament.
I sent Amazon the information that I did have, but they said it was not enough to prove ownership and my account would be permanently locked unless I could provide the information. I am beyond upset. There is no reason American Express cannot assist me. Not to mention, I tried to use this card at 7 different online stores and it was declined.
AMEX suggested that I could add it to my Google Wallet and use it with 'tap-to-pay'. Could I add it? No. They also said I could use it with Samsung Pay for in-person transactions.
Guess what happened when I tried to add it to Samsung?
If you guessed 'error', you would be correct. I will never use this company again for the rest of my life.

THEY STEAL MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS
I PAID OFF AND CANCELED MY CARD, WAS TOLD MY CARD COULDN'T BE USED ANYMORE, TWO MONTHS LATER THEY SEND ME A BILL WITH A BUNCH OF FAKE CHARGES... THEY SAID THEY WERE LEGIT WHEN THEY WEREN'T!!!I CANCELED EVERYTHING...
THEY JUSTIFY ALL CHARGES WHICH MEANS THEY STILE MY MONEY... DIDNT ASK IF IT WAS IDENTITY THEFT OR ANYTHING...
DON'T USE CARD OR SUPPORT COMPANY... COMPARE IT TO NAZI GERMANY TOTAL CRIMINALITY.

I was paying for my purchases as I was using my credit card which virtually paid my monthly balance. They claimed I owed them interest so I closed my account, paid it off partly with cash and the rest with reward points.
Customer service claimed my account was paid off and they closed my account. The next month, I got a bill from them plus interest. They never did use my reward points, so I could not only use my reward points but I had to pay them more money to clear up an account that we previously agreed was paid off and closed. To my knowledge, my account has not been closed, leaving me vulnerable to future problems they could hold me liable for.
To be with them for years and get good service only to be exposed to the sign of the times where companies don't have a clue to what good old customer service is all about.
I know I'm glad I was born early enough to experience how people and companies knew how to be decent and actually enjoyed taking care of their customers and employees. You can have this garbage, I'm not interested.

I shredded my card today. Ill be DAMMED if Ill stand for this kind of attitude and treatment. Customer service just stay home if you dont like your job just stay home get unemployment.
American Express used to be my favorite card now it is shredded up

I purchased a chandelier for $637. Nov 2, 2024, Dec 6 I contacted American Expresss and filed a dispute after sending them 2 emails requesting delivery information, they didnt have a customer service number the only response I received was and email reply when item ship they will send tracking information.
They have not responded to American Expresss,. I was reimbursed by money from American Express however the case will not be closed until February 6, 2025.

I just received my American Express statement and have three charges from you for 71.70 , 19.44, and 10.70 the order number was 87A2FA6BED and I do not feel this is correct please contact ASAP
I feel I have been charged for more than what I ordered and would like to know why 3 charges are on my Am. Exp.

Could not access account online
Two Days with customer service with the problems trying to sign in. Call customer service two times not helpful. Third time not successful, but I'd let software "rest and went back in later and it worked.
I requested getting my money back from a scam course (the company who sold me the on-line course refuses to give me any of my money back) and AMEX sided with the seller.
I have tried MULTIPLE TIMES to request refund. Three months of payments totalling $1650+ from AMEX Gold and nearly $600 from AMEX Delta cards.
They would only review THE FIRST charge which was oldest and not within their 60 day time frame. They lied on the phone call stating they would open a dispute on all charges then sent me a letter stating they decline to help me get a refund. I figured out myself that they only started a dispute for the first month, I checked with a different fraud agent there who verified this to be true.
I have been a customer for 40+ years, which they always tell me thanks for being a loyal customer for 40 yrs. I am sick of bug corporations closing the door on any form of help.
User's recommendation: Use Citi credit card! They are way better and refunded the money for the one month ($583) that I used that card for a payment.

I am profound frustrated and disappointed regarding the ongoing issues I have encountered with my Gold Account and I guess now the other three accounts Despite my repeated and diligent efforts to resolve these issues, I am yet to receive effective assistance or a satisfactory resolution. Since the inception of this account, I have faced numerous challenges.
Most recently, I have complied with all the requested procedures, including utilizing Notary-Cam services, physically leaving my house to get documents notarized, and incurring related expenses. On March 1st, I again faxed all necessary documents to the number provided (+1 62*-***-****), as instructed. I have proof of these documents being sent and received successfully. Despite these efforts, my accounts are paper weights American Express seems to be the only company I am experiencing issues with, despite having multiple accounts with different institutions.
Security is a major concern and I appreciate your efforts however the exaggeration stressed me out. Is this because I Am a new member. American Express, now saying that my account would be closed pretty much. I have submitted complaints to the Ive once contacted Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding this matter.
I did receive a call from a representative, from AMEX Executive office, but there has been no follow-up since then.I have fulfilled my part of the necessary procedures more than adequately. Ive submitted want they wanted am I a fake person??

Keeps declining usage. It's dishonest to buy something that doesn't work. It's very frustrating, and the store where you purchased it does nothing to help you.

I've been a loyal customer of American Express for about a year, and unfortunately, my experience with them has been incredibly disappointing. Recently, I was late on a payment, and instead of reaching out to me to discuss the situation or provide any notice, they abruptly canceled my card.
There was no courtesy call or even an email to inform me about the cancellation beforehand. This lack of communication is completely unprofessional and unacceptable.
I expected better customer service from a company as reputed as Amex, but this incident has left me feeling frustrated and disrespected. It's a shame that they handled this situation so poorly, and I won't be recommending their services to others.

Problems with activating my 150 gift card
Can't use my Amex card, I can't activate it. Tried several times to use the $150 on the card that I purchased.
Can't use my AMEX Gift card and I just loaded it last week and I tried to get it activated but nothing is happening,a problem.Please help

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. everything was resolved
I called to notify AE of fraudulent charges. I was told the card would be shipped out in a few days, (it was not). I use the AE card because of the travel insurance benefit. I have another trip planned, but I still have yet to receive the new AE card and I cannot charge that trip on AE until the new card arrives (NO real time committed by AE...maybe 10 days).
So I am going to have to buy travel insurance after spending $700.00 for the AE and not receiving the benefit.
I will be dumping AE and going to Chase Saphire (same travel benefits) for $600.00 less. By the way, their AE airport lounges are crowded and sometimes filled with loud kids.
